SpaceX is blowing past all Wall Street expectations in its second earnings report as a public company. Elon Musk's company posted its first quarterly profit $4.4 billion, or 35 cents a share, more than double estimates while spending nearly $20 billion on capex. Ross Gerber of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, is a shareholder. He says SpaceX should just buy Tesla now. Meanwhile, we're keeping an eye on SpaceX. So, shares up about 2% here on the back of its earnings. Revenue in the quarter coming in at about $15 billion, I'm rounding up. The street was looking for about uh $13 billion. Uh actual space revenue itself coming in at 1.77 billion, that's a beat. Connectivity revenue, $5.25 billion, that's a beat. AI revenue, $7.6 billion, that's also a beat. CapEx spending, $19.6 billion, pretty much what the street was looking for. Ross Gerber joins us right now, co-founder, president and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, and he owns SpaceX as well as Netflix. We'll get to Netflix in a second, Ross, but let's start with SpaceX here. I mean, the numbers look, I guess on the surface to be pretty good. I mean, how much does this actually tell us though about where SpaceX goes next? Well, I think it just confirms that it's a healthy business and it has a lot of good parts that are, you know, growing and profitable, especially the revenue number was pretty impressive. But I think SpaceX has moved its earnings report to in front of Tesla's for a reason because this is the good news part of Elon's Empire and we'll see the bad news part tomorrow, you know. Um, so SpaceX is doing well and I, you know, wouldn't be surprised if they buy Tesla any day now. Yeah, okay. Well, I mean we talk about, well, well how do they actually do that, Ross? I mean let's actually go there because I mean obviously this is a company uh that, you know, is posting profit on a net income basis. Obviously on an adjusted basis and taking a look at their cash and cash equivalents, they got about $51 billion out there, though the street was looking for $91 billion. I don't know what that disparity is about, but um, when you talk about buying Tesla, what does this do? Is this going to be like a stock transaction, cash and stock, debt? What? Yeah. No, it'd be an all stock transaction and and you know, we're assuming it would take place at around 420 a share because that's Elon's favorite number. And it kind of makes sense. And the longer the uh sort of survive as separate companies, the more issues it creates for Elon and the conflicts of interests and the divergent fortunes of the two companies and so on and so forth. And I think investors want one clear investment in Elon Musk's ventures. And so there's demand for this. So I I think it's really in their benefit to do a stock transition transaction before the end of the year um and just get this thing taken care of so there's no more confusion. So, you know, as I said, I think we're seeing the positive side of Elon's Empire here and I think we're going to see the more struggling side tomorrow and I think that is what makes it prime for an acquisition. Well, I am curious too about how we start to characterize and value SpaceX because obviously we think of it as a rocket company, but obviously as I just said, uh the majority of their revenue right now, the bulk of it, I should say is coming from AI, that's $7.56 billion uh number and space revenue, that's, you know, curiously the smallest part of the business at about $2 billion in revenue. This is now an AI company or has it always been? Well, no, you're you're right, it is an AI company now and and you know, the huge amount of CapEx and investment into XAI is a strategic investment into the future for SpaceX and ultimately having not only data centers on earth, but ultimately they want to do this in space as well. And and so when you look at the idea of making our own chips, being a completely verti- vertically integrated AI company that's that's sort of the vision I think Elon's trying to put together with like even physical products and services. So, so that said, you know, the good numbers and and and space itself is a small part of the overall business. You know, Twitter is a part of this too, let's not forget. Oh, yeah, I did forget. Um, but yeah, thanks for reminding us, it is part of it. Um I do want to ask you about the connectivity uh business uh because that's obviously growing as well, uh $5 billion in revenue there. And particularly about that connectivity business in light uh of uh the deal uh to buy out that spectrum uh from Grain Management, which seemed to be this idea of some sort of a more terrestrial uh connectivity. Uh what do you think he ac- Musk is actually going to do with that spectrum? Well, I think that is the goal. I I you know, I personally think Apple has had free reign for way long, you know, sort of dominating the phone business and I think with AI and you know, Tesla's ability with batteries, uh as well as just Starlink and the the digital system that's global that they could make a killer phone that would work everywhere in the world, last for three days of battery life and be completely AI enabled without apps. I think there's a place for that and and maybe that's what Elon is thinking. But, you know, being a traditional phone company just to compete with Verizon is a horrible idea, you know, it's like not an easy business at all. Um, and nor have those companies done well over the last five years either. So I think he sees a much bigger role for SpaceX and a communication system that will serve consumers in some way and and you know, eventually I think they they do something with a phone. Um with regards to just the quality of some of these numbers that we're seeing, particularly amid the speculation that Tesla could be folded into this. Um are we looking at a good story now on paper today that could actually be muddied by uh Musk trying to roll up his other enterprise into this? Um, I look at it the opposite. I I think it's more muddied now. I think it's a mess. You know, you've got XAI which is really should have been Tesla, that's really part of SpaceX, which is the brains that operate all of Tesla's products isn't owned by Tesla. I see this as a huge mess. And so, you know, it has to be resolved through a merger and and so I think it actually makes everything clean with a merger. We don't have any conflicts of interest. If you're investing in Elon, you buy one share and you get Elon, all these ventures and hopes and flying cars and whatever. And and the idea that these two companies are competing against each other, but yet are so connected. I mean, even I thought the event last week was another just signal like it was at a SpaceX facility, it was basically a SpaceX car, you know, and and so for me, I I I just I you know, it could happen tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised.
