Nine public companies have objected to having their shares offered as blockchain-based tokens on a proposed trading platform backed by crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: $ICE ), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. The companies are Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ: $CBRS ), AppLovin (NASDAQ: $APP ), Applied Digital (NASDAQ: $APLD ), Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: $RKLB ), CoreWeave (NASDAQ: $CRWV ), Verizon Communications (NYSE: $VZ ), Applied Optoelectronics (NASDAQ: $AAOI ), Broadcom (NASDAQ: $AVGO ) and UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: $UNH ), according to a notice from OKX and ICE. The notice did not explain why the companies opposed the plans. The objections pose an early challenge to OKXICE, a joint venture planning to let investors trade tokenized US stocks around the clock. More From Cryptoprowl: Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who serves as co-chair of the venture, announced the initiative last week. OKXICE submitted a notice to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on October 4 under the agency’s September 17 Innovation Exemption framework. The rules allow qualifying venues to trade tokenized securities without registering as traditional exchanges, subject to regulatory conditions. The proposal names more than 60 companies whose shares could be tokenized, including Nvidia (NASDAQ: $NVDA ), Tesla (NASDAQ: $TSLA ), Apple (NASDAQ: $AAPL ), Microsoft (NASDAQ: $MSFT ), Coinbase (NASDAQ: $COIN ) and Robinhood (NASDAQ: $HOOD ). Trades would use stablecoins such as USDC (CRYPTO: $USDC ), USDG (CRYPTO: $USDG ), and Tether’s USDT (CRYPTO: $USDT ), with transactions taking place through permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools on OKX’s XLayer blockchain. Users would have to pass identity verification, anti-money laundering, and sanctions checks before gaining access. Under the exemption, companies have 30 days to object after receiving notice. An objection prevents the venue from listing that company’s tokenized shares.
