According to Bank of America, SpaceX's (SPCX) Starlink will be installed on 100% of United Airlines' (UAL) aircraft fleet by the end of 2027. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi takes a closer look.
United Airlines may be flying under rival uh Delta's radar when it comes to the pace at which it's rolling out high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi aboard its planes.
And I was surprised by this research. United has equipped just under 600 of its aircraft with Starlink, says investment bank Jeffries after a meeting with the airline's vice president of Technology.
That breaks down to 300 regional jets and 300 mainline aircraft.
By year end, United Airlines expects 50% of its mainline fleet to be equipped with Starlink.
The number is expected to soar, no pun intended, to 100% of the fleet by the end of 2027.
This is a huge lead for United Airlines on high-speed Wi-Fi in the Friendly Skies.
It's almost not even close. This this fight isn't even been fair.
American Airlines won't start installing Starlink until the first quarter of 2027.
Southwest only began adding Starlink this past summer.
Then, of course, we have what's happening there at Delta or or what I should say, what's not happening.
It won't begin Amazon Leo installations until 2028.
Despite flyers uh viewing high-speed Wi-Fi as cable stakes to getting their business.
Elon Musk isn't feeling this one.
Musk recently lashed out on the social media platform X, claiming that Delta will lose substantial market share and predicting that Delta CEO Ed Bastion would eventually lose his job over the decision.
Bastion reportedly had criticized Musk in private, stoking chatter about why Delta would not be installing Starlink.
Bastion sought to lower the tensions last week on his earnings release.
In an interview, he complimented Starling's service and said he drove a Tesla.
Unclear if that got on Elon's good side.
