Elon Musk has pumped $1bn (£746bn) into the Hollywood giant Skydance, handing the billionaire a stake in the newly formed company behind CNN.
The Tesla founder was said to have made the commitment alongside new investment from other shareholders, including Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, Semafor reported.
The cash injection will hand Mr Musk influence over Hollywood's newest conglomerate, which was formed through the $110bn takeover of Warner Bros by Paramount earlier this month.
In addition to the major film studios behind Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, including HBO Max and Paramount+ streaming services, Skydance owns the CNN and CBS News networks.
The investment is significant because it will repay a favour to Larry Ellison, the Oracle tycoon who controls Skydance.
He provided $1bn in backing for Mr Musk's takeover of Twitter in 2022.
John Malone, the cable tycoon behind Liberty Global, predicted the move earlier this week because of the close ties between Mr Musk and Mr Ellison.
"Who helped Elon finance Twitter when he bought it? Larry Ellison," he told a conference on Wednesday.
"How did Larry Ellison come up with some of the money to put into the creation of Skydance? Tesla stock. And I would not doubt for a minute that before too long you're gonna see an announcement."
Mr Musk's investment will help to shore up Skydance's balance sheet after the debt-fuelled merger.
The company has a net debt of roughly $80bn, prompting concerns that its strategy will be governed by the need to lower its borrowing costs. Bosses have already said they will seek cost-savings of $6bn.
The move will also ease some of the pressure on Mr Ellison, who provided a $40bn personal backstop for the deal.
However, it may also trigger fresh concerns that the pair are teaming up to create a new Right-wing media empire in Hollywood.
Both billionaires are allies of Donald Trump, who this month said that Skydance would be a "great company".
Paramount has already faced fierce scrutiny for its influence on CBS after a raft of changes at the broadcaster.
Mr Ellison and his son David have been accused by unions of editorial interference after a string of programming changes and cuts, including on its flagship news show 60 Minutes.
Christiane Amanpour, CNN's long-serving chief international anchor, earlier this year criticised the "ideological realignment of CBS" and the "destruction, potentially" of 60 Minutes.
Mark Thompson, the former BBC director general who leads CNN, has insisted that Skydance "both understand and will fully support the principle and practice of the kind of independent news that CNN has always stood for".
